A 14 Year Old cask strength Foursquare at 62%, Convocation marries ex-bourbon and Madeira casks for caramel, toasted coconut, dried fruit and nuts over assertive oak, a dry, richly layered Barbados sipper.
Description
Foursquare ECS XXVIII Convocation 2010 is another numbered Mark in Richard Seale's ECS range from Barbados, the additive free single blend line that has become a benchmark for aged rum. It combines double retort pot still rum with column Coffey distillate and carries no added sugar, colour or flavour.
Distilled from molasses, aged fully in the tropics and matured across ex-bourbon and Madeira casks before bottling at a robust 62%, Convocation layers the wine cask influence over the dry Foursquare core: caramel, toasted coconut, dried fruit and nuts on the nose, then vanilla, chocolate and caramelised notes over assertive oak, with a dry, woody, honeyed finish. The Madeira component is well judged, enriching the rum without overwhelming it, and since nothing is dosed the richness comes entirely from spirit and wood. It is a rewarding slow sipper for those who enjoy dry, cask strength Barbados rum.
