A 16 Year Old cask strength Foursquare at 58%, Magisterium pairs long tropical ageing with sherry casks for coconut, dark chocolate, coffee and dried fruit over firm oak and spice, dry, creamy and rich Barbados rum.
Description
Foursquare ECS XXVI Magisterium 2008 is another numbered Mark in Richard Seale's ECS range from Barbados, the additive free single blend line that has become a benchmark for aged rum. As with the rest of the ECS range, it marries double retort pot still rum with column Coffey distillate and carries no added sugar, colour or flavour.
Distilled from molasses, aged fully in the Barbados heat and finished in sherry casks before bottling at 58%, Magisterium layers the cask influence over a dry Foursquare core: coconut, dark chocolate, coffee, dried fruit and toffee on a frame of firm oak and spice. The sherry adds depth and a creamy texture without tipping into sweetness, since nothing is dosed. It stays in the house idiom while leaning richer and drier than the bourbon only releases, and rewards patient sipping at a contemplative pace.
