Foursquare ECS XI Sagacity 2007

Sagacity is the eleventh entry in Foursquare's ECS range, the limited series that has become a benchmark for aged Barbadian rum, made under Richard Seale with a strict no additives philosophy. It is a single blended rum in the classic Bajan manner, marrying rich double-retort pot still spirit with cleaner column distillate from one distillery, here aged twelve years.

The maturation in ex-Bourbon and ex-Madeira casks gives the wine influenced lift that marks this release, layering coconut, vanilla and caramel over baking spice and the firm, dry oak that defines Foursquare's elegant, balanced style. Bottled at 48% with no added sugar or colouring, it leans drier and a touch fruitier than the standard profile while keeping the easygoing crossover appeal that makes the house a favourite of bourbon drinkers. It is a rum to sip and consider, and a sound step into Foursquare's serious range.
