Fortin Heroica

Fortin Heroica is the work of Fortin, a Paraguayan producer that blends column distilled rums made from organic cane honey, aged five to six years in oak that previously held bourbon. Bottled at 40% with no added sugar, it presents an honest, dry profile that drinkers find draws closer to whisky as it opens up.

The nose is inviting, with honey, praline, tropical fruit and vanilla, while the palate turns to minty molasses, caramelised notes and passion fruit before a finish of pepper, cedar wood, coconut and molasses. The cane honey base and bourbon casks give a rounded, soft sweetness that comes from the spirit rather than additives, with a faint leathery, cigar like edge over time. It is a characterful look at South American rum from an origin that rarely gets attention, balanced and easy to sip while staying genuinely dry.
