Forster Winzer grows this Spätburgunder, the German name for Pinot Noir, in the Nahe. A young, light red, it is fresh and aromatic, with raspberry, red cherry and a delicate floral note from the cool valley slopes.
Description
Forster Winzer is a family producer in the Nahe, one of Germany's cooler wine regions, where this Spätburgunder, the German name for Pinot Noir, is grown. The Nahe has a patchwork of soils, from slate and quartzite to sandstone and loam, and a cool climate that gives the grape bright acidity and a clear, perfumed red-fruit character rather than weight. The 2024 vintage is made in a fresh, youthful style, with the fruit kept to the fore. Vinified for early drinking, the wine sees little or no oak, which keeps the primary aromas clean and lifted. Cool fermentation preserves the delicate fruit, while a soft extraction keeps the tannins light and the texture supple. The colour is a bright, light ruby. The nose shows raspberry, red cherry and red currant with a floral, rose and white-flower lift and a touch of earth. The palate is light bodied with fresh acidity, gentle tannins and a clean, fruit-led finish. This is a Pinot Noir to drink young and slightly cool. Serve at 14 degrees. It pairs well with lighter meats and mushroom dishes.
