Twin sisters Margherita and Francesca Padovani farm Fonterenza biodynamically in Tuscany. Le Ragazze blends Vermentino, Trebbiano, Malvasia and Grechetto with skin contact and minimal intervention, showing lemon, white peach and a fresh, lightly grippy finish.
Description
Fonterenza was founded in 1997 by twin sisters Margherita and Francesca Padovani, who farm four hectares biodynamically in Tuscany and make wine with minimal intervention, using very little sulphur and no commercial additions. Le Ragazze is a skin-contact white blending Vermentino, Trebbiano, Malvasia and Grechetto, all Mediterranean grapes suited to the warm Tuscan climate. After fermentation on native yeasts the must is given time on its skins, which draws colour, light phenolic grip and texture while keeping the citrus and floral freshness of the varieties. The lighter touch on maceration, set against the more structured Friulian style, keeps this on the fresher side of orange wine. The wine is bottled without fining or filtering. The colour is pale amber to gold. The nose shows lemon, white peach and white flowers, and the palate is dry and lightly textured, with pear, citrus peel and an almond, savoury note on a fresh finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits white fish, shellfish and fresh cheeses.
