Fontanasanta Nosiola is a biodynamic orange wine from native Nosiola, made by Foradori in Trentino under the Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT. Eight months in amphora give a golden, textured wine of apricot, almond and dried herbs with a savoury, mountain-fresh edge.
Description
Fontanasanta is made by Foradori, the Trentino winery established in 1939 in Mezzolombardo and run since 1984 by Elisabetta Foradori, known for reviving the region's indigenous grapes. This wine is from Nosiola, a native white variety, bottled under the Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT and farmed biodynamically. It is an orange wine made in amphora. The grapes macerate on their skins, then ferment and age eight months in clay amphorae. The porous clay allows slow oxygen exchange, which builds an oxidative, savoury complexity without imparting wood flavour, while the extended skin contact draws firm tannin and phenolic texture that give the wine its grip. The Dolomite foothills are cool and high, with a wide swing between warm days and cold mountain nights that preserves acidity and lends the aromatics a clear, savoury precision. The wine pours an alluring golden yellow to amber. The nose shows apricot, almond and dried herbs over white flowers and a faint earthy note. The palate is dry, textured and structured, the skin tannin framed by bright alpine acidity, with a honeyed, nutty savour on the finish. Serve at 12 to 14 degrees in a wide glass to let the aromatics open. A versatile wine for the table.
