Bodegas Muga is one of the historic houses of Rioja, founded in 1932 in the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, and still working in a traditional vein. Flor de Muga Rosado is a single-variety Garnacha rosé made in a deliberately pale, restrained style. The fruit comes from the cool, high western end of Rioja Alta, where limestone-clay soils and altitude give a long, even ripening and hold natural acidity, which underpins the wine's freshness and pale colour. Direct pressing and a very brief skin contact draw only a little colour and phenolic grip, and cool fermentation locks in the primary fruit and floral detail rather than building texture or oak. The colour is pale pink. The nose shows freshly cut strawberry, subtle peach and white flowers, with a clean citrus lift. The palate is dry and crisp, with red fruit and white peach on taut acidity, closing fresh and faintly saline. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It is an aperitif by nature but pairs cleanly with shellfish, grilled white fish and light salads.
