Flor de Caña V Generaciones 1988

V Generaciones is a rare, long aged release from Flor de Caña, the Nicaraguan distillery known for genuinely sugar free, slow aged rum and a cleaner, more spirit forward take on the Spanish style. This single cask was distilled from molasses on a column still, drawn from a 1988 vintage and carried to thirty years in ex-bourbon, a long run for a tropically aged rum that rarely sees such age.

Three decades in oak show in a rounded nose of chocolate, vanilla, toffee and coffee, with a palate of caramel, chocolate, coffee and barrel depth, then a long, dry finish carrying gentle smoke, tobacco and vanilla. Because nothing is added, the sweetness reads as fruit and oak rather than dosage, and at 45% it stays elegant and composed rather than heavy. This is a refined, mature Latin rum to be savoured slowly and neat, ideal for drinkers who prize age and dryness over ester driven funk.
