Flensburg Rum Company African & Asian Fusion 2023

Flensburg Rum Company African & Asian Fusion 2023 is an unusual island blend from Oldman Spirits, bringing together rum from Ghana and Vietnam under the Flensburg Rum Company label. Bottled unsweetened at 45.2%, it is built as a light, curious crossover rather than a powerful sipper, and both origins make themselves heard.

The Vietnamese Sampan side contributes fruit, banana and a tropical lychee lift, while the Ghanaian component brings dry, floral and vegetal notes with a touch of vanilla. The nose is fresh, citrusy and herbal, the palate herbal, floral and vegetal over light wood, and the finish vegetal and woody with dried fruit. The body is thin and the finish fairly short, which leaves it better suited to mixing than slow neat drinking. As a long drink base it is genuinely fun and aromatic, an unsweetened, agricole leaning blend for adventurous drinkers, just not one to approach expecting depth or power from the neat pour.
