Flaming Heart 7th Edition CB (Compass Box)

Flaming Heart 7th Edition CB (Compass Box) is a blended malt Scotch from Compass Box. It vats single malts from several distilleries, with Caol Ila for Islay smoke. The distillery was expanded again in the 21st century to meet blend demand.

Caol Ila's elegant smoke gives the blend its coastal, citrus edge. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the distillery character to the fore. The spirit's high notes of lemon and grass survive even long maturation. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, which is why it suits so many wood types. Refill oak lets the maritime peat and lemon of the spirit lead the way. Smoked citrus and a saline minerality are the hallmarks of the make. The peat here is medium rather than heavy, so fruit and smoke share the glass. Phenols from the peat smoke carry the medicinal, lemony edge through the years.

At cask strength 48.9% it is muscular. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. A sea salt and an olive oil note sit under the smoke. The close is long, smoke over a citrus lift. A characterful smoky blended malt Scotch.
