Description
Finglassie is the name InchDairnie uses for the peated single malt it releases through independent bottlers, the smoky counterpart to its unpeated Strathenry trade malt. The Caskhound bottled this 2018 vintage at 7 years old, for its Peatwave range. This single cask, number 528, yielded 243 bottles, released for Germany.
InchDairnie works to a brief built around flavour, set out by founder Ian Palmer, using a hammer mill, a Meura mash filter and a custom Lomond Hill still in place of the standard Speyside kit. This is the distillery's peated spirit, so smoke sits over the young Fife malt. Matured in a red wine cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.2%, without dilution, the red wine cask adds dark berry and plum, with wine tannins giving a dry, grippy edge. Smoke comes through from guaiacol and its related phenols, edged with a light iodine note. At this age the malt is young but the smoke gives it weight, into a long, drying finish.
