Finca Rodma Selección is a Ribera del Duero red from a long established winemaking family, made entirely from Tempranillo. Twelve months in barrel build a deep, powerful wine of blackberry and plum framed by sweet spice and firm tannin.
Description
Finca Rodma Selección is made by the Finca Rodma family in the Ribera del Duero of Castilla y León, from Tempranillo, known locally as Tinta del País. This crianza style red is given twelve months in barrel before release. Ribera del Duero is one of Spain's most demanding red wine regions, a high plateau where hot days and cold nights produce a wide diurnal range that drives deep colour and firm tannin while preserving the acidity that keeps the wine fresh, and where the chalk and clay soils suit Tempranillo well. The result is a powerful but balanced grape. Twelve months in oak rounds the tannins through slow oxygen exchange and layers in vanilla, sweet spice and a toasted edge, while the time in barrel begins to knit the structure together before bottling. The colour is deep, dense ruby. The nose is enveloping, with dark fruit such as blackberry and plum to the fore, joined by vanilla, liquorice and sweet tobacco. The palate is full bodied and structured, with firm, ripe tannin and a long spiced finish. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees, decanted an hour ahead, with roast or grilled red meat.
