Finca Rodma farms high-altitude Tempranillo in Ribera del Duero, with vineyards reaching almost 1,000 metres. Aged in French oak, Avizor shows dark plum, cherry and tobacco over firm, structured tannins.
Description
Bodegas y Viñedos Finca Rodma works in Quintanilla de Arriba, in Valladolid, within DO Ribera del Duero, where the family has farmed for generations. Avizor is a Tempranillo grown high on the estate, with plots sitting between roughly 650 and 980 metres above sea level. Altitude is decisive here. The intense continental climate brings hot days and sharply cold nights, and that wide diurnal range slows ripening so the grapes build colour, tannin and aromatic complexity while holding firm acidity. The thin, stony soils restrict vigour and concentrate the fruit. The wine spends fifteen months in French oak followed by two years in bottle before release, and that long oak ageing allows gentle oxygen exchange that softens the firm tannins and adds spice and vanilla, while bottle time integrates the structure. The colour is deep, almost opaque purple. The nose carries black plum and dark cherry with tobacco, liquorice and toasty oak. The palate is full and structured, with ripe black fruit, firm tannins and a long, savoury, mineral finish typical of high-country Ribera. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees and decant when young. A natural partner for roast and grilled meat.
