Description
Finca Nueva is a project of Miguel Ángel de Gregorio, the winemaker behind Finca Allende, set up to make young, easy-drinking wines at an affordable price. This is a single-variety Tempranillo from D.O.Ca. Rioja, with the fruit grown on vineyards on the right bank of the Ebro. The wine is made fresh and young, without barrel ageing, so it shows Tempranillo's bright fruit directly. Without oak there is no tannin or spice from wood and no oxidative softening, which keeps the wine light, fresh and fruit-driven, made to drink early rather than to cellar. Rioja's mix of Atlantic and Mediterranean influence gives the grapes ripeness while the cooler nights preserve acidity, the balance that keeps a young red like this lively and clean. The colour is bright cherry-red. The nose is fresh and fruity, with red cherry, raspberry and a floral lift. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, the tannins soft and the acidity bright, finishing clean and easy. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, lightly cooled if you like. It is a versatile everyday red for casual meals.
