Description
Finca Moncloa sits near Arcos de la Frontera in Cádiz, an estate founded by the González Byass family to make terroir-driven reds from recovered vines, and it belongs to the Grandes Pagos de España association. The blend is built on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah, with the indigenous Tintilla de Rota adding local character. Andalusia's warm, sunny southern climate ripens these Atlantic-influenced vineyards fully, while the maritime breezes off the coast moderate the heat and retain freshness in the fruit. The albariza-influenced soils of the Cádiz hinterland lend a mineral, savoury thread. The wine ages for twelve months in French and American oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange firms and rounds the tannins and adds a frame of sweet spice. The colour is a deep, alluring cherry red. The nose opens with ripe red and black fruit, blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, over mineral, savoury and lightly peppery notes. The palate is full bodied and structured, with firm, ripe tannins, dark fruit and a long, savoury finish. Serve at 17 degrees, decanted. It is built for roast and grilled red meats and mature cheeses.
