Description
Finca La Estacada is based at Tarancón in Cuenca, working within the VT Castilla designation across 278 hectares of vineyards averaging 25 years of age. This is a single variety Tempranillo, Spain's leading red grape. The region has a mild Mediterranean climate with average temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees, and dry weather through ripening that limits fungal disease and concentrates the fruit. The older vines yield small, even crops with good depth of flavour. The wine is aged for twelve months in American oak barrels, which contributes a sweeter, more open spice profile than French oak, with vanilla, coconut and dill tones, while the slow oxygen exchange through the staves softens the tannin and stabilises colour. Expect a deep cherry red colour, a nose of ripe black fruit, cherry and raspberry over a spicy, toasted background, and a medium to full bodied palate that is round and fruit forward with supple tannin and a vanilla and cocoa edged finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It is an easy match for grilled and roast meat.
