Description
Finca Allende was founded at Briones in Rioja Alta in 1986 by Miguel Angel de Gregorio, better known for red wine, and Marure is his statement that the region also makes serious white. It is pure Garnacha Blanca from vines planted in 1947 on clay and limestone loams, with the deep old roots and low yields of aged vineyards concentrating the fruit. The wine is aged for thirty months in French oak, a long elevage during which slow oxygen exchange through the barrel builds texture and complexity, while contact with the lees adds a creamy weight and the wood contributes gentle spice and toast. Rioja Alta sits at altitude with cool nights, so despite the ripeness at fourteen degrees the wine keeps enough acidity to carry its richness. It pours deep gold. The nose is white peach, honey and beeswax over vanilla, toasted bread and almond from the long barrel time. The palate is broad and layered, stone fruit and nuts held by a firm line, finishing long and savoury. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees in a large glass.

Additional information
Its weight and oak suit richer dishes: roast chicken, lobster or crayfish in butter, and firm white fish such as cod. The nutty depth also pairs with aged Manchego and mushroom dishes.
