Description
Finca A Pedreira is an Albariño from D.O. Rías Baixas made by Manuel Moldes at Bodegas Fulcro, in the Salnés subzone near Sanxenxo in Pontevedra. The single vineyard of the same name sits on granitic sandy soil facing the sea. Moldes works with minimal intervention and little cellar technology, letting site rather than technique shape the wine. The Atlantic exposure and granite soils give the wine its firm acidity and its salty, coastal grip, while the sandy topsoil drains well and keeps the vines in balance. The wine is fermented and aged six months in a mix of barrels and stainless steel tanks on its lees. The lees add weight and roundness to the mid palate, and the fraction aged in wood brings a little texture without noticeable oak, so the fruit stays clear. The wine is a delicate straw yellow. The nose is fresh, with green apple, white peach and citrus over a stony mineral note. The palate is taut and saline, the fruit carried on bright acidity to a dry, mineral finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits shellfish, white fish and richer oily fish such as grilled mackerel.
