Description
Fillaboa farms seventy hectares of vineyard near the bank of the river Miño in Salvatierra de Miño, in the Condado do Tea subzone of the D.O. Rías Baixas. This is a single-variety Albariño made in a traditional way, with alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature to preserve the grape's bright aromatics and firm acidity. It then spends four months on its fine lees, where the settled yeast slowly breaks down and lends a little body and a savoury depth while the wine stays crisp and unoaked. The Condado do Tea sits inland from the coast on granite soils, warmer and more sheltered than the Salnés, which gives Albariño a riper, fuller fruit while the Atlantic influence and altitude keep the acidity in place. The wine is pale with green glints. The nose shows ripe pineapple, crisp apple and citrus over white flowers, with a saline, mineral undertone. The palate is fresh and dry, medium bodied and textured from the lees, closing clean and saline. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits shellfish and Atlantic fish.
