Ficken Liquors

Ficken Liquors is a German fruit liqueur bottled at 15%, made from the jostaberry, a cross between redcurrant and gooseberry grown mainly in Germany. The berry gives the liqueur a deep red colour and a fresh, fruity note balanced between sweetness and a light acidity, and the recipe uses no additives, colourings or preservatives, relying on the natural berry flavour. The jostaberry is its defining ingredient, a less common fruit that sets it apart from the usual berry liqueurs.

The nose is fresh and fruity with redcurrant and gooseberry over a subtle sweetness, the palate fruity and sweet with a pleasant acidity that keeps it lively, finishing smooth with a lingering fruitiness. Behind the bar it adds bright berry flavour, sweetness and an acidic lift that keeps a drink from turning flat, which makes it an easy cocktail base and a quick way to lift a long drink. It works as a chilled shot, lengthens with soda, tonic or fruit juice into a refreshing highball, and pours neat or over ice. Serve it well chilled.
