Description
F&G SRL Pichincha Ron Rum 1996 is an aged Ecuadorian molasses rum named for the volcano above Quito, distilled on a column still and bottled at fifteen years old by the Italian outfit F&G. Carrying a 1996 vintage and a gentle 40% strength, it leans on age and dried fruit depth.
The nose is rich and fruit laden, dates, plums, cranberries and caramelised sugar setting an inviting tone. The palate brings brown sugar, a clear sherried note, dried fruit and oak, drinking somewhere between the softer Latin American styles without tipping into heavy sweetness. The finish carries dried dates, wood and a gentle spice. While the palate is a touch less layered than the generous nose promises, it stays smooth and pleasant, a fruit driven aged sipper that wears its years well and suits those who enjoy a softer, dried fruit forward profile.
