Description
Feudi San Gregorio is a leading name in the revival of southern Italian wine, based in Irpinia in the volcanic hinterland of Campania. Campanaro is a blend of Fiano and Greco grown in the hills around Avellino, where clay and volcanic soils at altitude and a wide day-to-night temperature swing give these two native grapes both ripeness and tension. The wine is fermented and aged for six months in oak barrel, where controlled oxygen exchange and lees contact broaden the texture and add a savoury, smoky depth that suits the naturally structured Fiano and the fuller Greco. The elevation and cool nights preserve acidity through the ageing, so the oak frames the fruit rather than covering it. Expect a bright gold colour, a nose of ripe pear, white peach, toasted hazelnut and a struck-match smokiness, and a full, mineral palate carrying stone fruit, almond and honey into a long finish. At 13.5% it has real presence. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees in a large glass.

Additional information
Serve with roast pork or grilled swordfish, where the oak and body stand up to richer flesh. The smoky mineral depth also complements hard nutty cheeses such as aged pecorino.
