Feudi di San Gregorio makes this San Greg from Aglianico in mountainous Campania. A pale, dry rosato built as an aperitif, it shows strawberry, white peach and a floral lift, with bright acidity from the high vineyards.
Description
Feudi di San Gregorio is one of Campania's leading estates, and San Greg is its rosato, conceived as an aperitif in the old Italian tradition. The wine comes from Aglianico, the region's great red grape, grown high in the volcanic mountains of inland Campania where altitude and cool nights preserve acidity and keep the fruit fresh. Aglianico is firm and structured as a red, but here it is picked for freshness and made by gentle pressing and short skin contact, then fermented cool in stainless steel and rested four months in tank to round the texture while protecting the aromatics. There is no oak, so the wine stays clean and fruit led. In the glass it is a pale, bright pink, with a floral nose over strawberry, cherry and white peach. The palate is dry and lively, the mountain fruit driven by crisp, high-altitude acidity to a clean, faintly savoury finish. This is a precise, refreshing rosé made for the table and the aperitif hour. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees with seafood, cured meats and light antipasti.
