Description
Pietracalda is a Fiano di Avellino made by Feudi di San Gregorio in the hills of Irpinia, inland Campania in southern Italy. Fiano is one of the great whites of the south, grown here at altitude at the foothills of the Apennines on volcanic and clay soils that give the wine its mineral backbone and structure. Warm, long summers ripen the fruit while cool nights at elevation preserve acidity and the grape's characteristic aromatics. The wine is aged for around five months on its lees in stainless steel: the lees contact adds a creamy weight and a subtle nutty, savoury layer while stainless steel keeps the fruit precise and free of oak. Fiano is known for developing honeyed and hazelnut tones with time, and those are already forming here. The colour is bright straw yellow, the nose complex with white peach, pear and citrus over hazelnut, chamomile and honey. The palate is broad and balanced, with good acidity and a long, faintly nutty finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
Good with baked white fish, prawns and creamy risotto. The weight and nutty depth also suit roast chicken, pork and roasted squash, and it stands up to a mushroom pasta.
