Feudi di San Gregorio works the native Piedirosso grape into this fresh Campanian red. Vinified in stainless steel with no oak, it is vibrant ruby in the glass, with ripe plum, blackberry and a peppery, herbal lift over a light, food-friendly body.
Description
Piedirosso is one of Campania's oldest native grapes, long planted alongside Aglianico across the volcanic slopes around Naples and Vesuvius. Feudi di San Gregorio bottles it on its own here, drawing a lighter, fresher style than the firmer Aglianico the estate is known for. The volcanic soils and warm coastal climate ripen the fruit fully while retaining acidity, and the winemaking keeps things simple: three months in stainless steel and one month in bottle, with no oak, so the focus stays on bright primary fruit and the grape's gentle structure. The wine shows a vibrant ruby colour and aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and red cherry, with a peppery edge and a savoury, herbal note typical of the variety. The palate is light to medium bodied, with soft tannins, fresh acidity and an earthy, mineral finish. This is an easy, versatile red that can be served slightly cool. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees in a standard red glass. It pairs naturally with lighter meats and Mediterranean dishes.
