Grown on the volcanic slopes of Vesuvius, this Lacryma Christi Rosso blends Aglianico and Piedirosso. Vinified in stainless steel and bottled young, it shows fresh cherry and red berry fruit, a peppery edge and the smoky mineral signature of the volcano.
Description
Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio comes from vineyards on the slopes of Vesuvius, where black volcanic soils, free-draining ash and lava give the wine its distinctive smoky, mineral character. Feudi di San Gregorio blends the structured Aglianico with the softer, more aromatic Piedirosso to make a fresh, approachable red. The warm coastal climate ripens the fruit while the altitude and volcanic ground keep acidity bright. Winemaking is deliberately restrained: five months in stainless steel with no oak, which protects the primary fruit and lets the volcanic terroir show through. The wine is bright ruby in the glass, with aromas of red cherry, raspberry and plum lifted by black pepper, dried herbs and a clear smoky, earthy edge. The palate is light to medium bodied, with fresh acidity, fine soft tannins and a savoury mineral finish that reflects the volcanic soils. This is a versatile everyday red best served slightly cool, at 14 to 16 degrees, in a standard red glass. It is at home with simple Neapolitan cooking.
