Feudi di San Gregorio grows Greco on the volcanic tufo soils of Campania, in southern Italy. Five months on the lees in steel give a fresh, mineral white with white peach, citrus and a saline, stony edge from the site.
Description
Cutizzi Greco di Tufo comes from the hills around the town of Tufo in Campania, southern Italy, where Feudi di San Gregorio works with Greco, the native grape that gives the DOCG its name. The zone is defined by its tufo, a soft volcanic and sulphur bearing rock that drains freely and lends the wines a firm mineral and saline character. Greco is naturally high in acid and structured for a white, and the cooler hillside sites hold that freshness through ripening. The wine is fermented and aged five months in stainless steel on its lees, with no oak, so the fruit and the site come through cleanly, while the time on lees adds a little weight and a savoury depth without softening the drive. The wine is pale gold with white peach, pear and citrus on the nose, white flowers above and a stony, almost saline undertone. The palate is fresh and firm, with a grip of almond skin and a long mineral finish. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees. It suits shellfish, grilled white fish, roast chicken and green salads.
