Fettercairn from the distillery, an 11 year old, from 2010, at 49.7%, 3600 bottles in all. Fettercairn is a light, tropical Highland malt distilled in the Howe of the Mearns since 1824. John Gladstone's son William became Prime Minister and reformed the taxation of whisky.

The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in stills cooled by their copper rings, giving the light, pineapple led Highland spirit. Finished in a European Oak cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the pineapple deepening to a mango. Years in oak round the spirit, the pineapple and citrus deepening to a mango. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way. After Ramsay lost his fortune, the Fasque estate passed to the Gladstone family in 1829. Its stills carry unique cooling rings, copper tubes that drench them in cold mountain water.

At a hearty 49.7% it carries real weight. A bright, tropical orchard fruit, with a spiced, dried fruit edge from the cask. Beneath it run pineapple, citrus and a soft vanilla. A clean finish ends on pineapple and a soft oak. This is a fruity, tropical Highland single malt.
