Fettercairn Batch 2 (TBWC)

From That Boutique-y Whisky Company, a Fettercairn, bottled at 52.4%, one of 58 bottles. Fettercairn is a light, tropical Highland malt distilled in the Howe of the Mearns since 1824. Its make matures on site in dunnage warehouses, around thirty two thousand casks in all.

The spirit was worked through the cooling ring stills for a clean, fruity make, for the tropical, fruity make Fettercairn is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak letting the fruit lead. With no age statement, the oak has given vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the tropical, fruity spirit. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its pineapple and citrus. Years in oak round the spirit, the pineapple and citrus deepening to a mango. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Mountain spring water and the cooling rings give the tropical Fettercairn make.

At its natural 52.4% it is concentrated. Mango, citrus and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is clean, the fruit carried on a light body. It finishes long, fruity and clean. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
