Description
This Fettercairn was bottled by The Secret Treasures, a 9 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 9875, bottled at 46%, one of 309 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt whose tropical character comes from water cooled stills. It has been owned by Whyte and Mackay since 1973.
Distilled from unpeated malt in stills cooled by their copper rings, for a clean make of pineapple and citrus. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla to the fruit. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the tropical spirit. The cool Highland air of the Mearns gives a slow, even maturation in the dunnage warehouses. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its pineapple and citrus. Mountain spring water and the cooling rings give the tropical Fettercairn make.
At an approachable 46% it is light and tropical. Mango, citrus and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish is long, fruity and gently spiced. This is a fruity, tropical Highland single malt.
