The Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing bottled this Fettercairn, an 8 year old, distilled in 2012, from cask DL 15143, bottled at 46%, one of 430 bottles. Fettercairn is a light, tropical Highland malt distilled in the Howe of the Mearns since 1824. Its water comes from springs in the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains above the distillery.

The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in stills cooled by their copper rings, for a light, fruit driven spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the tropical fruit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, fruity and tropical. The cool Highland air of the Mearns gives a slow, even maturation in the dunnage warehouses. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its pineapple and citrus.

Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. Mango, citrus and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. Citrus, fruit and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a fruity, tropical Highland single malt.
