Description
A Fettercairn of a 7 year old chosen by the bottler Claxton's, distilled in 2015, from cask C23084, bottled at 56.1%, one of 68 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt whose tropical character comes from water cooled stills. John Gladstone's son William became Prime Minister and reformed the taxation of whisky.
The spirit was worked through the cooling ring stills for a clean, fruity make, for the tropical, fruity make Fettercairn is known for. An Oloroso cask held it, shaping the light spirit over the years. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, fruity and tropical. The cooling rings give a light spirit, so the cask brings depth over the years. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Highland spirit. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the tropical fruit growing richer with time.
At cask strength 56.1% it is full bodied. A light, tropical sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Mango, citrus and a creamy vanilla fill the middle. The close is light and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Fettercairn's pineapple led Highland style.
