Description
An official release of Fettercairn, a 46 year old, at 42.2%. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt shaped by the unique cooling rings on its stills. Its water comes from springs in the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains above the distillery.
The spirit was made on mountain water with the stills drenched in cold water, for a light, fruit driven spirit. It was matured in a Tawny Port cask, the wood working into the fruity malt. In its ethereal years the malt is waxy and oxidative, faded tropical esters and a touch of sotolon (maple, dried fig). American oak suits the tropical make, lending vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Highland spirit. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way. John Gladstone's son William became Prime Minister and reformed the taxation of whisky.
At 42.2% it is fruity, tropical and clean. Tropical fruit, vanilla and a soft spice, with a nutty, raisined red fruit from the cask. Beneath it run pineapple, citrus and a soft vanilla. The finish is long, fruity and gently spiced. This is a light, tropical Highland single malt.
