Description
This Fettercairn was bottled by Meadowside Blending, a 37 year old, distilled in 1988, from cask 238, bottled at 52.9%, one of 241 bottles. Fettercairn is a light, fruit driven Highland single malt from the village of Fettercairn. After Ramsay lost his fortune, the Fasque estate passed to the Gladstone family in 1829.
It was drawn off the stills, the cooling rings raising reflux for a fruity spirit, for a light, fruit driven spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the fruity spirit. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the fruit to a honeyed, resinous depth of sotolon, coffee and old oak. Mountain spring water and the cooling rings give the tropical Fettercairn make. It has been owned by Whyte and Mackay since 1973. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the tropical fruit growing richer with time.
Bottled at a cask strength 52.9%, it is rich. Mango, citrus and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run pineapple, citrus and a soft vanilla. The close is light and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a tropical Highland malt from the foot of the mountains.
