Description
A 22 year old Fettercairn from the bottler Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, distilled in 1998, from cask 3222, bottled at 56.1%, one of 196 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt whose tropical character comes from water cooled stills. The cooling rings raise reflux and copper contact, so only the lightest vapours rise, for a tropical spirit.
The spirit was drawn off the stills, the cooling rings raising reflux for a fruity spirit, the cooling rings lifting a clean, tropical character. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the fruity spirit. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried mango, coffee and beeswax. The water cooled stills give a light spirit that ages with grace. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. The cooling rings give a light spirit, so the cask brings depth over the years.
At 56.1%, undiluted, it is deep and tropical. Mango, citrus and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. The finish is rounded, tropical and gently spiced. This is a light, tropical Highland single malt.
