Description
A Fettercairn of a 19 year old chosen by the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, distilled in 1993, bottled at 54.1%, one of 462 bottles. Fettercairn is a light, fruit driven Highland single malt from the village of Fettercairn. Its water comes from springs in the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains above the distillery.
The spirit was made on mountain water with the stills drenched in cold water, the cooling rings lifting a clean, tropical character. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the tropical fruit turning honeyed and a roasted coffee creeping in. Years in oak round the spirit, the pineapple and citrus deepening to a mango. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. It was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, who turned a corn mill at Nethermill into a distillery.
At 54.1%, undiluted, it is deep and tropical. Pineapple, pear and a creamy vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. Citrus, fruit and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a light, tropical Highland single malt.
