Description
A 15 year old Fettercairn from the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, distilled in 2007, bottled at 46%. Fettercairn, founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, is one of Scotland's oldest licensed distilleries. Its make matures on site in dunnage warehouses, around thirty two thousand casks in all.
It was drawn off the stills, the cooling rings raising reflux for a fruity spirit, giving the light, pineapple led Highland spirit. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (pineapple and pear) and a honeyed depth. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Highland spirit. It was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, who turned a corn mill at Nethermill into a distillery. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way.
At 46% it is smooth and fruity. A clean, fruity sweetness, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. Beneath it run pineapple, citrus and a soft vanilla. A clean finish ends on pineapple and a soft oak. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
