This Fettercairn was bottled by The Single Cask Ltd, a 12 year old, distilled in 2006, from cask 107721, bottled at 55.1%, one of 225 bottles. Fettercairn is a light, tropical Highland malt distilled in the Howe of the Mearns since 1824. It uses unpeated malt and matures mostly in American oak ex-Bourbon casks.

Distilled slow and light for the tropical Fettercairn style, giving the light, pineapple led Highland spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the fruity spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the pineapple deepening to a mango. Long ageing turns the fresh tropical fruit towards dried mango, coffee and a soft spice. The water cooled stills give a light spirit that ages with grace. Refill oak lets the light, tropical Fettercairn character lead the way. John Gladstone's son William became Prime Minister and reformed the taxation of whisky.

At a hearty 55.1% it carries real weight. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked pineapple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish runs long, tropical and warming. This is a tropical Highland malt from the foot of the mountains.
