Description
From the bottler Claxton's, a 10 year old Fettercairn, distilled in 2015, from cask EXP1089, bottled at 50%. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt from Whyte and Mackay, known for pineapple and tropical fruit. A Scottish oak project has planted thousands of native oak saplings beside the distillery.
It was run through the water cooled stills for a light, tropical make, building the tropical Fettercairn style. It was matured in a Tawny Port cask, the wood working into the fruity malt. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the pineapple deepening to a mango. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. In 2018 the distillery relaunched with a new core range under maker Gregg Glass. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Highland spirit.
At its natural 50% it is concentrated. Pineapple, mango and a gentle honey, with a nutty, raisined red fruit from the cask. Mango, citrus and a creamy vanilla fill the middle. A long, fruity finish carries a tropical fruit and a soft spice. This is Fettercairn, one of Scotland's oldest licensed distilleries.
