Description
From the bottler Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, a 10 year old Fettercairn, distilled in 2011, bottled at 47.5%, one of 1244 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt shaped by the unique cooling rings on its stills. In 2018 the distillery relaunched with a new core range under maker Gregg Glass.
Worked through the cooling ring stills for a clean, fruity make, for a clean make of pineapple and citrus. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak letting the fruit lead. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the pineapple deepening to a mango. Long ageing turns the fresh tropical fruit towards dried mango, coffee and a soft spice. The cool Highland air of the Mearns gives a slow, even maturation in the dunnage warehouses. Its stills carry unique cooling rings, copper tubes that drench them in cold mountain water.
At a natural 47.5% it is full and fruity. A bright, tropical orchard fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run pineapple, citrus and a soft vanilla. The finish runs long, tropical and warming. This is the light, fruit driven malt of Fettercairn.
