Description
The bottler Mossburn bottled this Fettercairn, a 10 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask Batch 30.1008.18, bottled at 46%. Fettercairn is a light, tropical Highland malt distilled in the Howe of the Mearns since 1824. Its stills carry unique cooling rings, copper tubes that drench them in cold mountain water.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in stills cooled by their copper rings, for the tropical, fruity make Fettercairn is known for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the pineapple. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper pineapple and pear. Maturation on site in the Fettercairn dunnage warehouses is slow and steady. Its water comes from springs in the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains above the distillery. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. Tropical fruit, vanilla and a soft spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fruity and tropical, the light spirit shining through. A long, fruity finish carries a tropical fruit and a soft spice. This is the light, fruit driven malt of Fettercairn.
