Description
This Fettercairn was bottled by Blackadder, a 10 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 2019-086, bottled at 46%, one of 379 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt from the foot of the Cairngorms in Aberdeenshire, known for its tropical fruit style. Its stills carry unique cooling rings, copper tubes that drench them in cold mountain water.
The spirit was worked through the cooling ring stills for a clean, fruity make, for a clean make of pineapple and citrus. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the fruity spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the fruit, the body softer and fuller. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its pineapple and citrus. Mountain spring water and the cooling rings give the tropical Fettercairn make. Its make matures on site in dunnage warehouses, around thirty two thousand casks in all.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft tropical fruit and a vanilla sit behind the cask. The finish runs long, tropical and warming. This is the light, fruit driven malt of Fettercairn.
