Description
This Fettercairn was bottled by A.D. Rattray, a 10 year old, distilled in 2006, from cask 107695, bottled at 59.8%, one of 227 bottles. Fettercairn is a Highland single malt from Whyte and Mackay, known for pineapple and tropical fruit. The cooling rings raise reflux and copper contact, so only the lightest vapours rise, for a tropical spirit.
It was distilled slow and light for the tropical Fettercairn style, for a clean make of pineapple and citrus. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak letting the fruit lead. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the fruit, the body softer and fuller. American oak suits the tropical make, lending vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It was the second distillery licensed in Scotland after the Excise Act of 1823. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.
At its natural 59.8% it is concentrated. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run pineapple, citrus and a soft vanilla. The close is light and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a tropical Highland malt from the foot of the mountains.
