A cask strength Belize rum from Travellers finished in cognac casks, rich with chocolate, caramel and coconut milk over ripe fruit and tobacco, thirteen years old and bottled unfiltered by Ferroni at 59.8%, a rounded gourmand pour.
Description
This Travellers 2007 is a Ferroni bottling, the Provence house here taking a thirteen year Belize rum and finishing it in cognac casks at a full 59.8%. Molasses based and tropically aged, it pairs the gentle, dessert leaning Belize profile with the rounded richness Ferroni draws from its French wine and brandy wood.
The nose shows the cognac cask clearly, dried fruit and vanilla over lime and tropical fruit. The palate is gourmand and full, caramel, honey and coconut milk with ripe fruit and a tobacco note, all wrapped in cognac oak, before a finish of chocolate, wood and warm cinnamon. There is a faintly sweet impression to the texture, though it reads as a rich, dry sipper rather than a dosed one. It needs a little time and perhaps a drop of water to fully unfold, rewarding drinkers who enjoy well aged molasses rum with a brandy cask twist.
