A Port Mourant from Maison Ferroni, drawn from 2008 DDL stock and bottled cask strength at a fierce 63%, leaning unusually waxy and citric with notes of wax, lemon and peach over an oily, full-proof frame.
Description
Ferroni DDL Port Mourant 2008 is a Guyanese rum from Demerara Distillers stock, distilled on the Port Mourant double wooden pot still and bottled cask strength by the Provence house Maison Ferroni, known for its dry, full-proof Brut de Fut style. Port Mourant usually means oily anise and liquorice, but this particular cask shows a more unusual, waxy face of the marque.
Finished in port wood and bottled at a fierce 63%, the rum carries a nose of wax and sap, with the palate turning to lemon, more wax and a stone-fruit peach note. It is an oily, intense expression where the high strength and the slightly austere profile demand patience and a little water. Ferroni bottles unsweetened in its own range, and this reads as a raw, undiluted take on Port Mourant, one for drinkers who want the still's character at full power rather than smoothed into easy sweetness.
