A nine-year Mauritian rum from the 2013 vintage selected by Maison Ferroni, earthy, vegetal and herbal with licorice on the nose and a sugarcane and spice palate, double-matured in Ferroni’s Provence cellars and bottled unsweetened at 45%.
Description
This Chamarel comes from Mauritius, bottled by France's Maison Ferroni from the 2013 vintage at nine years of age. Ferroni is known for taking casks back to its Provence cellars for a second maturation, typically in ex-sweet-wine wood, and for bottling clean and unsweetened, here at 45%.
The Mauritian character comes through clearly in the glass. The nose is earthy and vegetal with herbal and licorice notes, leaning into the savoury, terroir-driven side of the island's rum rather than easy sweetness. The palate stays vegetal with fresh sugarcane and a spicy edge, and the finish turns gently sweet with more sugarcane and spice. Ferroni's continental finishing rounds the rum without burying its origin. A characterful, dry Mauritian bottling for drinkers who favour earthy, herbal depth over polish.
