A cask strength Canary Islands rum from Ferroni, this 2013 La Palma bottling pairs raisined grapes and blackcurrant with caramel, leather and chocolate, full proof at 62.3% yet creamy rather than sharp.
Description
Ferroni Canaries La Palma is a 2013 vintage rum from the volcanic island of La Palma, bottled at eleven years old by Maison Ferroni, the Marseille house known for unsweetened cask strength releases double matured in Provence in ex sweet wine wood. Issued at a full 62.3% as a Brut de Fut, it reflects the bottler's purist approach of no added sugar and natural strength.
Distilled on a combination of pot and column stills and matured in ex bourbon barrels, it carries a fruit forward, lightly winey character. The nose offers vanilla, roasted almonds, blackcurrant and dried grapes, while the palate turns to caramel, leather, dark chocolate and more of that raisined fruit. Despite the high proof the finish stays creamy and warm, with chocolate and a clear barrel note. A little water opens it nicely for those who find the strength bold.
