Description
Ferraton Pere et Fils is a Rhone Valley house founded in 1946 and reshaped from 2006 through its work with Michel Chapoutier. This organic Viognier comes from the Collines Rhodaniennes, the hill country of the northern Rhone, where the grape gives its most perfumed expression. Viognier is defined by aroma, and the warm continental climate here ripens the fruit fully to bring out its apricot and floral character. The wine ages on its fine lees, which release mannoproteins from the spent yeast cells and build a rounder, fuller texture that suits the grape's naturally low acidity and oily weight. In the glass it is bright straw yellow, with apricot, white peach, honeysuckle and white flowers on an aromatic, perfumed nose. The palate is round and full, with ripe stone fruit and a soft floral character, held together by a fresh, gently bitter finish that keeps it from feeling heavy. This is an aromatic white with real presence and works best with flavourful dishes. Serve at around 11 degrees in a white-wine glass.
