Ferraton blends Terret Blanc and Vermentino into this crisp southern French white from biodynamic Languedoc vineyards. It is fresh and Mediterranean in style, showing lemon, white peach and a garrigue note of dried herbs.
Description
Maison Ferraton Père & Fils is a Rhône house that also draws fruit from the wider Mediterranean south, and La Tournée Blanc is its easygoing white blend of Terret Blanc and Vermentino. Terret is a traditional Languedoc grape prized for holding acidity in a warm climate, while Vermentino brings citrus lift and a savoury edge. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically on the sun-baked soils of the Languedoc, where limestone and stony ground drain freely and the dry Mediterranean summer is tempered by coastal breezes that slow ripening and keep the fruit fresh. That balance is what lets a southern white stay crisp rather than heavy. The wine is made in a clean, protective style to preserve aromatics, with no oak, so the emphasis falls on fruit and freshness. Expect a pale colour, a nose of lemon, white peach and white flowers carried by a note of dried herbs that reflects the garrigue scrubland of the region, and a dry, light-bodied palate with a saline, herb-tinged finish. Serve chilled at around 9C. It is an easy match for lighter seafood and vegetable dishes.
